Sibylle Schlaich
While studying visual communication at the University of Design in Schwäbisch Gmünd and the University of the Arts in Berlin, Sybille Schlaich gained experience working with Otl Aicher in Rotis, at GGK in Frankfurt am Main and with Henry Steiner in Hong Kong. After completing her studies, she worked at MetaDesign in Berlin.
In 1994, she and her colleagues founded Moniteurs – Design of Analogue and Digital Media. Since 2003, she has been managing Moniteurs GmbH – Kommunikationsdesign together with Heike Nehl. The agency specialises in guidance and orientation systems, information design and corporate design.

Since 2025, she has been an honorary professor of signage and spatial communication at the Saar College of Fine Arts. She has been actively teaching since 2000, including at Leibniz University Hannover, the University of Art and Design Halle, the Bauhaus University in Weimar and as a visiting professor at the CDK, the Chinese-German Art Academy in Hangzhou, China.
She regularly gives lectures in Germany and abroad, including at the Symbol Group Conference, the Isotype and Beyond Symposium in Vienna, the Goethe Institute in Krakow, Nirma University in Ahmedabad, the Smart Airports Conference in Vienna, the international design conference TYPO Berlin, and the Face2Face design conference. She has also served as a jury member on several selection committees.
Sibylle Schlaich is the co-author of the books Airport Wayfinding (Niggli Verlag), 1:1 Orientation, Signage, Identity, The evolution of the elevator pictogram Information Design Journal, Amsterdam, John Benjamins Publishing Company, Look Book Informationdesign (Verlag der Bauhaus Universität Weimar), emotional digital – A source book of Contemporary Typographics (Verlag Hermann Schmidt Mainz), und Erneuerbare Energien nutzen (Using Renewable Energy; Werner Verlag).
