Moniteurs designs visitor guidance system

The new Kunsthalle Praha revitalizes a former substation in the historic center of Prague. The building was largely gutted and rebuilt. Parts of the existing building have been preserved, creating an exciting spatial experience with many intermediate levels, vistas and exits for visitors. A complex task for Moniteurs. We were happy to take on the challenge. The Kunsthalle opened its doors in spring.

The BER grows …

Moniteurs continues to create orientation

Terminal building T2 has opened, adding six million passengers a year to BER’s capacity and capable of handling around 2,000 passengers during peak hours. It is the fastest-built terminal project in Germany. Moniteurs, airport wayfinding system experienced, collaborated. Architecturally, the focus is on functionality and allowed a different approach to the design of orientation.

Project at the HBKsaar

Together with Prof. Indra Kupferschmid, Sibylle Schlaich is teaching at the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Saar this winter semester. Signs, slips of paper, signs indicate where we are or where we should go. Already from one copy we have to think about how it looks, where it hangs, whom it should address, and where it points. How does guiding work? What are the types – and qualities – of paths? In this project, we will discuss orientation, signs and guidance systems, lend a hand ourselves and design an individual wayfinding system.

Isotype and beyond

Lecture in the Economic Museum in Vienna

The lecture by Sibylle Schlaich is about the design of a gender-neutral pictogram. A pictogram must be unambiguous. However, the more versatile the message to be communicated, the more difficult it is to design. The necessary abstraction may neglect important distinguishing features. In fact, some pictograms do not distill the essentials, but seek their uniqueness based on non-essential externals. A gender-neutral pictogram is a contradiction in terms.

Design Talks Business

Lecture at the design festival in Poland

Design Talks Business is a space in which architects, entrepreneurs, strategists, managers and designers meet and bordly go beyond the limits of today’s solutions. The increasing role of design in business and the potential of the dynamically changing man of the Anthropocene era is one of many points of contact for business and design. For this reason, 300 participants will meet on 13 and 14 July 2018 at the Gdynia Design Days Festival in Poland. Based on the theme “error”, more than 20 speakers and presenters were invited to share their inspirations, mistakes, cases and methods. One speaker is Sibylle Schlaich from Moniteurs.

Heike Nehl and Sibylle Schlaich have been invited to talk at Haus Wellensiek in Bielefeld on the 11th of February. How can both worlds compliment each other? Through their work with orientation systems, the design office wishes to show how rapidly change has been accomplished, not least in the mind of the visitor/user.

The Märkische Quarter in Berlin is a metropolitan area of 3.2 square kilometres with nearly 40,000 residents, the orientation of which is not easy. The district office of Berlin Reineckendorf recently held a competition to redesign the orientation system, which Moniteurs won in 2013, and the firm, accompanied by the environmental psychologists from PSY:PLAN, will be working on a new concept. PSY:PLAN will research and consult for the project in the fields of architecture and the psychology of perception. Moniteurs already worked intensely in this area in 2006, developing an orientation system for several residential buildings for the organisation Gesobau.
