Corporate Design

The Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg is a renowned research university in an attractive location. Situated in the heart of the city and surrounded by beautiful landscapes, it is a place where a wide variety of disciplines and people come together—where tradition meets forward thinking, fundamentals meet the extraordinary, and regional roots meet internationality. The new corporate design expresses this “coming together.” It was developed through workshops in which members of the university from various levels and areas took part.

In the wordmark, the university is visually connected to the city. For use in social media and on popular merchandise products, a shortened version may be used.
The revised and digitized seal of the University of Freiburg remains a central element of the corporate design and symbolizes the university’s rich tradition.

The new, contemporary typeface “Social” forms the foundation and a common thread throughout all media. In the wordmark, the university is visually connected to the city. The seal continues to play a central role but can now unfold its impact freely in space. The classic shapes of the design elements, in their unexpected colors, can be recombined again and again, creating new impressions and perspectives.

The new concept offers great flexibility for various applications and forms of expression – from classic to young and spontaneous. It is designed to continuously evolve while maintaining its confident core.



Based on the color system and defined design elements, a logo toolkit was developed to adapt the logos of university institutions to the new corporate design.

The layout grid of the University of Freiburg forms the design foundation for all media formats – from print to digital. It ensures clear structures, sufficient white space, and a distinct visual hierarchy that purposefully highlights key information or functions.

Despite its systematic approach, the new grid concept deliberately allows for a high degree of creative freedom. It enables a wide range of applications and forms of expression – from objective and classic to vibrant and spontaneous. The grid is designed to flexibly accommodate different requirements while maintaining visual coherence across all media.

The corporate design concept enables diverse applications. Varied designs emerge depending on the target group and context.

The new corporate design conveys the essence and values of the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg. The concept was developed with regard to the evolving demands of the university’s communication, implemented across media, supported by many stakeholders, and realized by a diverse group of people.
